Chandigarh, November 3
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tarsem Lal, posted at Dirba Police Station in Sangrur district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of Anaj Mandi, Bhawanigarh.
The complainant alleged that ASI Tarsem Lal had demanded ₹30,000 in exchange for not conducting a raid to arrest him in connection with another case. The complainant also claimed to have recorded a conversation in which the accused allegedly demanded the bribe.
Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Patiala Range. Acting on the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while he was allegedly accepting ₹25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Patiala. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
