Patiala, November 12:
The 6th day of the National Theatre Festival, organized by Kala Kriti Patiala and SDBCT in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Center Patiala, witnessed a powerful performance by the Rang Mastaney Theatre Group from Jaipur. Their play, “Maharathi,” delved into the life of the legendary warrior Karna, highlighting the themes of social injustice and the consequences of prejudice.
Directed by Abhishek Modgill and written by Vibhanshu Vaibhav, “Maharathi” reimagines the epic tale of the Mahabharata, focusing on the tragic figure of Karna. The play explores the discrimination faced by Karna due to his low birth and the way he was denied opportunities, despite his exceptional skills and bravery.

The play highlights the irony of Karna’s situation. Despite being a formidable warrior, he was often overlooked and underestimated because of his social status. The injustice he faced is a stark reminder of the societal biases that continue to persist even today.
The play’s climactic scene, where Kunti laments the tragic demise of her eldest son, underscores the devastating consequences of prejudice and discrimination. Krishna’s realization of the injustice done to Karna adds a poignant dimension to the narrative.
Through powerful performances and thought-provoking storytelling, “Maharathi” offers a fresh perspective on the epic tale, inviting the audience to reflect on the enduring themes of social justice and equality.
