Chandigarh, August 5

In preparation for peaceful Independence Day celebrations in 2024, the Punjab Police conducted extensive cordon and search operations (CASO) at District and Sub-Divisional Courts across the state on Monday. This effort, aligned with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to a safe and secure Punjab, aimed to ensure comprehensive security at all Judicial Complexes.

The operations, directed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, were carried out from 11 AM to 2 PM in all 28 police districts. Special DGP for Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, stated that Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were instructed to personally oversee the operation, deploying sufficient police teams under the supervision of SP rank officers. The CPs/SSPs were also tasked with checking all suspicious persons and vehicles in and around court complexes, utilizing the Vahan app for vehicle verification.

Police teams were also instructed to ensure that Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs) and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at Judicial Complexes were fully operational.

According to Special DGP Shukla, police teams frisked 1421 suspicious individuals around the court complexes and checked 1850 vehicles in nearby parking areas. The operations led to the issuance of 62 challans and the impounding of one vehicle.

The primary objective of these checks was to ensure foolproof security at Judicial Complexes and to tighten surveillance on anti-social elements. CPs/SSPs have also been directed to increase police patrolling in vulnerable areas to enhance monitoring of potential threats.
