- Residents can call the toll-free number 1800-121-5721 for complaint resolution
- Wet and dry waste to be collected separately from every household in Khanna
- Successful implementation to expand across Punjab
Chandigarh/Khanna, January 6:
In a significant step toward making Punjab garbage-free, Cabinet Minister Mr. Tarunpreet Singh Sond inaugurated the state’s first pilot project for door-to-door waste collection and segregation in Khanna city.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Sond announced that the project, with an investment of ₹4 crore, will run for a year. Upon its success, similar initiatives will be implemented across other parts of Punjab.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Mr. Sond said that this pioneering project aims to separate wet and dry waste from every household in Khanna. The initiative will ensure that garbage is no longer dumped indiscriminately, eliminating waste from all city wards.
Key Features of the Project:
- Unique Identification for Residents: Each household, business, and street vendor in Khanna will receive a unique ID linked to an app. Users will be billed a nominal fee for waste collection, with payment options available online and offline.
- Complaint Resolution: A dedicated toll-free number, 1800-121-5721, has been established for complaints. Issues reported will be addressed within 60 minutes.
- GPS-Tracked Collection Vehicles: All garbage collection vehicles will be GPS-enabled, with their movements monitored live in a control room.
Mr. Sond emphasized that the project will transform Khanna into a cleaner and more beautiful city. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and his cabinet colleagues for their support in bringing this initiative to life.
Future Prospects:
The project aims to generate fertilizer from wet waste and electricity from plastic waste, setting an example for sustainable waste management. After its success, the model will be replicated across Punjab and potentially other states in India.
Urging residents of Khanna to support the initiative, Mr. Sond said, “Together, we can make Punjab ‘Rangla Punjab’ by ensuring a garbage-free environment.”
