CM Mann Announces 200 New Aam Aadmi Clinics to Enhance Healthcare Access Across the State

Chandigarh, August 3

Patients to Access Doctor’s Prescriptions, Reports, and Appointments via WhatsApp

In a significant step towards improving healthcare services, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced on Sunday the establishment of 200 additional Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state, increasing the total number of such clinics to 1081. This initiative aims to provide quality healthcare to all citizens, reinforcing the state’s commitment to accessible medical services.

Launch of WhatsApp Chatbot for Aam Aadmi Clinics

Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a WhatsApp Chatbot for 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics, the Chief Minister described the day as historic for Punjab’s healthcare sector. He noted that these clinics serve approximately 70,000 patients daily, and the new WhatsApp Chatbot will revolutionize patient care in the digital age. The chatbot enables patients to receive doctor’s prescriptions, diagnostic test reports, and reminders for follow-up consultations directly on their phones, leveraging the fact that 90% of Punjabis own smartphones.

CM Mann elaborated that patients can now access comprehensive health-related information via WhatsApp, eliminating the need to physically store prescriptions or medications. The chatbot also allows patients to instantly share reports with family members or consult other doctors. Additionally, regular updates on managing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, pregnancy, and newborn care will be provided, enhancing patient convenience and care.

Digital Database and Expanded Healthcare Infrastructure

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Health Department will maintain a digital database of patients, their ailments, and treatments, streamlining healthcare delivery. He announced the upcoming launch of 200 new Aam Aadmi Clinics to ensure quality healthcare reaches every corner of Punjab. CM Mann emphasized the state’s pioneering Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana, which provides up to Rs. 10 lakh per family for medical treatment, making Punjab the first state in India to implement such a scheme.

Critique of Previous Governments

CM Mann criticized previous governments for neglecting the health sector, leaving citizens to bear the burden of high treatment costs. He noted that many patients in rural areas avoided seeking care for serious illnesses due to financial constraints, fearing debt for their families. The current government, he stressed, is fulfilling its duty to provide free, quality healthcare with dedication.

Punjab as a Medical Hub

The Chief Minister outlined efforts to transform Punjab into a medical hub, including the approval of four new medical colleges in Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Nawanshahr. He also highlighted the success of the state’s free electricity scheme, with 90% of households receiving zero electricity bills, providing significant economic relief.

Broader Achievements

CM Mann noted growing public trust in government institutions, evidenced by students shifting from private schools to Schools of Eminence. This year, 208 students from government schools cleared the JEE Advanced exam, and over 800 students passed the NEET exam. He also praised the Road Safety Force (RSF), which has reduced road accident deaths by 48%, saving hundreds of lives. The RSF, equipped with 144 modern vehicles and specially trained personnel, including women, has been lauded by other states and the Government of India. During his tenure as an MP, CM Mann recalled that over 5,000 lives were lost annually in road accidents in Punjab, underscoring the RSF’s life-saving impact.

Appeal to WHO

During the event, CM Mann invited the visiting World Health Organization (WHO) team to tour Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Clinics and health institutions to share their expertise and insights.

Event Highlights

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh welcomed the Chief Minister and guests, detailing ongoing health sector initiatives. Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, Health Secretary Kumar Rahul, and other dignitaries attended the event, marking a significant milestone in Punjab’s healthcare journey.
