CM Mann Felicitates Government School Students for Cracking NEET, Hails Education as a Cure for All Ills

Chandigarh, June 27,

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized the state government’s innovative approach to revolutionizing the education sector while felicitating 509 government school students who successfully cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Friday.

Key Highlights

Addressing the gathering at Municipal Bhawan, Mann described the achievement as a historic milestone, noting that the education sector has undergone a transformative shift over the past three years. “These revolutionary steps have propelled students to excel in every field,” he said, celebrating the 509 NEET qualifiers as role models for society.

Education as a Priority

Mann outlined education, health, infrastructure, industry, sports, employment, and the eradication of drugs as the government’s key focus areas. He highlighted the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign, which has disrupted drug supply chains and led to the arrest of major traffickers. “We are leaving no stone unturned to wipe out the drug menace, ensuring perpetrators face justice,” he stated.

Empowering Students and Addressing Past Neglect

The Chief Minister credited the students’ success to their hard work and perseverance, emphasizing that government schools are now imparting quality education, enabling parents to realize their dreams for their children. He criticized previous governments for their lackadaisical approach, which left many youths ineligible for government jobs due to age limits. “While there’s no age bar for political leaders contesting elections, young people face age restrictions for jobs. We are correcting this mess,” Mann said.

Merit-Based Recruitment and Reverse Migration

Mann announced that Municipal Bhawan could be renamed “Appointment Letter Bhawan” due to the distribution of over 54,000 government jobs to youths purely on merit through a transparent process. This has restored faith in the system, leading to reverse migration as Punjabi youth return from abroad to join government services. “Punjabis are hardworking and resilient, and our transparent recruitment process has encouraged them to stay and contribute to the state,” he added.

Education Revolution Initiatives

  • Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs): Previously common in private schools, PTMs are now a regular feature in government schools, fostering communication between parents and teachers for students’ betterment.
  • Public Libraries: The government is establishing state-of-the-art public libraries equipped with Wi-Fi, solar power, digital resources, and world-class books on contemporary literature and curricula to promote reading habits.
  • Women Empowerment: Mann highlighted that girls are outshining boys in various fields, with the government appointing seven women as Deputy Commissioners and eight as Senior Superintendents of Police to promote gender equality.

Education as a Solution to Social Issues

Mann described education as a “panacea for all ills,” capable of eradicating poverty and social maladies by elevating living standards. “No freebies or concessions can eliminate poverty, but education empowers people to break free from this cycle,” he said, underscoring the government’s relentless efforts to enhance educational standards.

Vision for Punjab

Mann called for active youth participation to make Punjab a frontrunner state, lamenting the brain drain caused by previous regimes’ apathy. He noted that the government’s course correction has enabled students to contribute to Punjab’s socio-economic development through government jobs. “With the support of our youth, we aim to transform Punjab into a progressive state,” he said.
