CM Mann’s Zero Tolerance Drive: 52 Police Officials Dismissed in Sweeping Anti-Corruption Sweep Across Punjab

CHANDIGARH, February 19:
In line with the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service delivery, 52 police officials have been dismissed across various districts for involvement in corrupt practices, malpractices, criminal activities, or prolonged absenteeism. This was announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav , during a press conference at the Punjab Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
The dismissed officials include one Inspector, five Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), four Head Constables (HCs), and 42 Constables from multiple districts.]
Zero Tolerance Against Corruption
Addressing the media, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in their respective jurisdictions are rigorously identifying cases where police officers face serious allegations, are named in FIRs, or are found indulging in corrupt practices. Each case is being thoroughly examined, with due procedure followed to ensure justice and accountability.
Highlighting recent actions, the DGP mentioned the arrest of a Station House Officer (SHO) named Sadiq and two constables in Faridkot district , who were involved in extortion.
Reiterating Punjab Police’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption , DGP Yadav warned, “Black sheep within the force will not be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty of misconduct or corruption.”
Introduction of E-FIR Facility for Motor Vehicle Theft
In a significant step towards enhancing citizen-friendly services, DGP Gaurav Yadav announced that Punjab Police is set to introduce an e-FIR facility for motor vehicle theft . This initiative will allow citizens to lodge FIRs online or through SAANJH Kendras , reducing direct interaction with police personnel and ensuring faster, more transparent services.

For this purpose, an e-Police Station is being established at the state level. Additionally, the Punjab Police will request the Hon’ble High Court , through the state government, to notify E-Courts in each district to streamline the process further.
The DGP highlighted that Punjab Police already offers 43 police services online under the SAANJH project , and the introduction of e-FIRs marks another milestone in leveraging technology for public convenience.
Internal Police Reforms Project Expanded
DGP Yadav also shared details about Punjab Police’s collaboration with the Indian Police Foundation to implement a groundbreaking project on Internal Police Reforms . Launched initially in SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Rupnagar , the project is now being expanded to Fatehgarh Sahib and Khanna districts.

- Improving complaint/FIR registration processes
- Enhancing police response, behavior, and conduct
- Minimizing harassment and improving citizen services
- Strengthening community engagement
