Congress Pledges Full Support to Punjab Government for State’s Welfare, Says Rana Gurjeet Singh
Chandigarh, July 13
Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh, representing the Congress party, extended unwavering support to the Punjab government for initiatives aimed at the state’s betterment. Speaking in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday during a debate on a resolution opposing the deployment of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the security of dams and other projects in the state, Singh affirmed his and his party’s backing for the resolution.
“Delving into past issues is akin to performing a post-mortem rather than a constructive operation. This approach benefits no one. We need forward-looking discussions on the current situation, not dwelling on irrelevant old matters,” said the Kapurthala legislator.

Emphasizing the critical importance of water for Punjab’s agriculture-driven economy, Singh stated, “We must unitedly fight for our water rights, as water is the lifeline of our agrarian state.” He assured that the Congress party would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the government in safeguarding Punjab’s interests.
Singh also called for special status and additional budgetary allocations for the five states and union territories sharing borders with Pakistan—Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Highlighting Punjab’s 543-kilometer border with Pakistan, he noted that border states bear the brunt during wars and escalations, underscoring the need for enhanced support.
