Continuing its crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswinder Singh, posted at Police Station Bhogpur (Jalandhar district), for demanding a bribe of ₹5 lakh from a complainant.
According to an official VB spokesperson, the action followed a complaint filed directly on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line by a resident of Maqsudan, Jalandhar.
The complainant had been implicated in a criminal case registered at Bhogpur police station. ASI Jaswinder Singh, who was the Investigating Officer, allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh in the name of SHO Rajesh Kumar to:
- Avoid arresting the complainant
- Suppress the alleged pistol recovery
- Prevent further police remand of co-accused Surjit Singh
