De-Addiction Center Owner Arrested for Misusing Medication, Drug Inspector Implicated

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Dr. Amit Bansal, owner of 22 de-addiction centers across the state, for allegedly misappropriating medication used to treat patients struggling with addiction.
Key Points:
- Dr. Bansal is accused of diverting tablets meant for his rehabilitation centers (Addnok-N 0.4 and Addnok-N 2.0) and selling them illegally on the market.
- The investigation revealed Dr. Bansal’s potential involvement in a similar case in 2022, where employees at his Ludhiana center were caught with a large quantity of these diverted tablets and drug money.
- Rooppreet Kaur, a Drug Inspector in Ludhiana, is also implicated for allegedly filing a misleading report downplaying the number of missing tablets discovered during an inspection of the Ludhiana center, potentially to shield Dr. Bansal.
- A separate incident in June 2024 involved a viral video exposing another of Dr. Bansal’s centers, Sehaj Hospital in Nakodar. A large number of Addnok-N tablets were found there, and the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar ordered an investigation. The center’s license was suspended, but the case seems to have been stalled.
- Another case involving Dr. Bansal’s Adarsh Hospital in Patiala was registered in November 2024 against its employees.

Ongoing Investigation:
The VB is conducting a thorough investigation to identify other individuals involved in this alleged network diverting medication from de-addiction centers. The probe will focus on both officials and private persons.
