Deportation : Punjab Police’s SIT Intensifies Crackdown; Five New FIRs Filed, Two More Travel Agents Arrested

— Total FIRs Reach 15, Arrest Count Rises to Three

CHANDIGARH, February 19:
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police, led by ADGP NRI Affairs Praveen Sinha , has intensified its crackdown on fraudulent immigration consultants involved in duping innocent individuals seeking to migrate abroad. In the latest development, the SIT has registered five new FIRs and arrested two more travel agents for their involvement in illegal immigration schemes.
With these updates, the total number of FIRs has now reached 15 , while the arrest count has risen to three . These cases involve agents who allegedly deceived victims with false promises of facilitating legal entry into the United States, only to expose them to dangerous routes, detention, and eventual deportation.
Details of the Latest FIRs
The FIRs were filed across districts including Tarn Taran, SAS Nagar, Moga, and Sangrur between February 17 and 18, 2025 . The accused agents operated through unauthorized networks, charging exorbitant amounts from victims under the guise of safe and legal immigration routes. Instead, they exploited victims by sending them through perilous paths via third countries.
- FIR No. 25 (17.02.2025) at Police Station Patti, Tarn Taran : Registered against an agent operating from Chandigarh and Yamuna Nagar, who allegedly took ₹44 lakhs from a victim promising legal immigration to the USA. However, the victim was routed through Nicaragua and Mexico , leading to deportation.
- FIR No. 19 (17.02.2025) at Police Station Majri, SAS Nagar : Filed against agents Mukul and Gurjinder Antaal , who duped a victim of ₹45 lakhs and sent him via Colombia and Mexico .
- FIR No. 30 (18.02.2025) at Police Station Dharamkot, Moga : Accuses Sukhwinder Singh, Talwinder Singh, Pritam Kaur, and Gurpreet Singh , members of Ekam Travels Chandigarh , of luring a victim with a fake work permit and promises of a direct flight to the USA for ₹45 lakhs. Instead, the victim was sent via Prague, Spain, and El Salvador .
- FIR No. 15 (18.02.2025) at Police Station Khanauri, Sangrur : Filed against a visa and travel company run by Angrej Singh and Jagjit Singh from Haryana. They allegedly swindled ₹50 lakhs from a victim, promising a Canada visa but instead sent him through Egypt, Dubai, Spain, Guatemala, and Nicaragua .
- FIR No. 95 (18.02.2025) at Police Station Goindwal Sahib : Registered against an agent named Goldy , operating near IGI Airport, Delhi, who deceived a victim into paying ₹45 lakhs for legal entry into the USA.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
Two travel agents, Angrej Singh and Jagjit Singh , were arrested by the Sangrur Police , adding to the earlier arrest made by Police Station NRI Patiala .
The SIT is actively collaborating with cybercrime units , financial authorities , and central agencies to trace the entire network of human traffickers. District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) have ramped up investigations, resulting in multiple arrests and the freezing of bank accounts linked to these illegal operations.
DGP’s Statement
DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav reiterated the Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling these fraudulent immigration syndicates. He urged victims to come forward without fear and assured them of strict legal action against the perpetrators.
“The public must exercise caution and only consult licensed immigration consultants after verifying their credentials,” said the DGP. “We are committed to protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and ensuring justice for victims.”

The Punjab Police has appealed to citizens to report unlicensed travel agents or suspicious activities related to illegal immigration. Public cooperation remains crucial in identifying and dismantling these exploitative networks that prey on the aspirations of innocent individuals.
