The Deputy Commissioner reported that according to Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials, an 80% completion rate has been achieved on the 15 MLD (million liters per day) STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) being built near Daulatpur. A 2.5 MLD ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) being constructed at the same location, which will treat industrial waste from the focal point, is 35% complete. Additionally, work on a 26 MLD sewage treatment plant behind Sunny Enclave is also 80% complete. All these works are expected to be finished by September 30, 2025.
Dr. Yadav also stated that Drainage Department officials reported that the floods had caused significant damage to the Vaddi Nadi’s embankments and the STP, causing some project delays. However, work is now progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by October 31, 2025. She emphasized that untreated sewage water will not be directly discharged into either river; all water will be treated before release. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed all aspects of the work and instructed officials to submit regular progress reports.

Dr. Yadav explained that these rivers are the city’s main drainage channels, and obstructions during the monsoon season can lead to flooding. However, with the completion of the ₹164 crore project, which includes channelization of the Chhoti Nadi, walking and cycling tracks, fencing, and work on the Vaddi Nadi’s inlets, check dams, bridges, and reshaping, along with the beautification and renovation of both rivers, drainage will be significantly improved.
SDO Rakvinder Singh from the Drainage Department, SDO Sanjay Jindal from the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and other officials were also present at the review.
