India fought back on Day 4 of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane, avoiding the follow-on after crucial contributions from KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja.
Australia had pushed for victory after setting a first-innings total of 445. They took two wickets in a rain-interrupted morning session, including the key wicket of Rahul (84), who had earlier been dropped by Steve Smith. At lunch, India were 167/6.
However, Jadeja then led a counter-attack, scoring a vital 77 off 123 balls. A crucial late partnership of 39 runs between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for the final wicket further frustrated Australia and ensured India wouldn’t have to follow on. Bad light eventually ended play.
