Durban/Patiala, 29 November (Sports Desk )
South Africa’s Marco Jansen delivered a devastating bowling performance, dismantling Sri Lanka for a record-low total of 42 runs in the first innings of the second Test. This humiliating collapse is the lowest Test total ever recorded by Sri Lanka.
Jansen’s Dominance:
Jansen was the architect of Sri Lanka’s downfall, claiming a career-best 7/13. His exceptional bowling figures propelled South Africa to a commanding position in the match.
Sri Lanka’s Dismal Performance:
Sri Lanka, who had shown promise in their recent Test series against New Zealand, were completely outplayed by the South African bowlers. The pitch offered assistance to the seamers, but Sri Lanka’s batting was simply inept.
Prabath Jayasuriya’s Milestone:
While the overall performance was disappointing, Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya achieved a significant milestone. He became the second-fastest bowler to reach 100 Test wickets, achieving the feat in just 17 Tests.
This remarkable achievement, however, was overshadowed by the team’s dismal batting performance.

Implications for the WTC:
Both South Africa and Sri Lanka are currently vying for a spot in the World Test Championship final. This result will have a significant impact on their respective points tallies. A strong performance by South Africa could solidify their position, while Sri Lanka will need to regroup and fight back in the remaining innings.
