Jaspal Rana, Jeetu Rai Appointed as New Coaches for India’s National Shooting Team

Olympian Jaspal Rana , Jeetu Rai , and Deepali Deshpande have been inducted into India’s National Shooting coaching team. The announcement was made by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Saturday.
Deepali Deshpande , former coach of Paris 2024 bronze medalist Swapnil Kusale , has been appointed as the head coach for the rifle shooters. A celebrated Olympian from Athens 2004 and recipient of the Dronacharya Award , Deshpande was entrusted with this responsibility during NRAI’s Governing Body meeting.

Four-time Asian Games gold medalist and former coach of Manu Bhaker , Jaspal Rana , has been appointed as the high-performance coach for the 25-meter pistol category.

Rana had previously coached Bhaker from 2018 to 2021 and was reappointed as her coach in 2023 ahead of Paris 2024.
In addition, other high-performance coaches appointed include DS Chandel (Air Rifle), Anwar Sultan (Trap), and Manoj Kumar (50-meter rifle).
Jeetu Rai , a Rio 2016 Olympian and 2014 Asian Games champion, has been named the national coach for the 10-meter air pistol category. Overall, the coaching team has been expanded with 16 new members, while 19 existing members have been retained.
The new national coaching team also includes former international shooters Pooja Ghatak (10-meter air rifle), Pemba Tamang (25-meter pistol), Amrinder Cheema (Skeet), and Varsha Tomar (Trap).

Vikram Chopra and Samresh Jung will continue as head coaches for shotgun and pistol disciplines, respectively.
During the meeting, significant decisions were also made regarding India’s first-ever shooting league, the Shooting League of India (SLI) . Former Hockey India CEO Elena Norman has been appointed as an advisor to the league.
