Patiala, October 1
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Department and Red Ribbon Club of Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Education under the management of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Amritsar Sahib, organized a series of activities to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on October 1, 2025. The events aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage community participation.
As part of the initiative, second-year B.Ed. students conducted various programs during their teaching practice in different schools. These included seminars, slogan-writing competitions, poster-making contests, and an oath-taking ceremony focused on the theme “Importance of Blood Donation”. The activities were designed to educate and inspire students and the community about the life-saving impact of blood donation.
Addressing the occasion, College Principal Dr. Harmeet Kaur Anand highlighted the critical role of blood donation in saving lives. She emphasized that every three seconds, someone requires a blood transfusion, and a single donation can save up to three lives. “Blood donation is a priceless gift to humanity; there is no greater act of service,” she said. Dr. Anand clarified that donating blood poses no harm to the donor and is a vital lifeline for patients, including those with cancer, accident victims, thalassemia patients, and individuals undergoing surgeries.
Encouraging the NSS volunteers, Dr. Anand urged them to take an active role in motivating others to donate blood. “As volunteers, we expect you to inspire and mobilize people for this noble cause,” she said. The school students also participated enthusiastically, contributing to the success of the program through their active involvement in the various activities.
