Chandigarh, September 17
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched ‘Mission Chardi Kala,’ a global fundraising campaign to support the state government’s rehabilitation efforts for the victims of the 2025 Punjab floods.
In a video message, the Chief Minister described the floods as an unforgettable tragedy that swept away millions of dreams. He highlighted that 2,300 villages were submerged, over 2 million people were affected, 5 lakh acres of crops were destroyed, 56 lives were lost, and 7 lakh people were rendered homeless.
Mann further detailed the extensive damage: 3,200 government schools, 19 colleges, 1,400 clinics and hospitals, 8,500 kilometers of roads, and 2,500 bridges were devastated. Initial estimates peg the losses at approximately ₹13,800 crore, with the actual damage likely higher. He called this the most devastating tragedy in Punjab’s history, but also its greatest test, emphasizing that Punjab has always risen above crises with strength and courage.

The Chief Minister praised the resilience shown during the floods, noting how the youth risked their lives to save others, gurdwaras and temples opened their doors to serve food, and the entire state united like a family. He stressed that the focus must now shift from relief to rehabilitation, enabling farmers to sow crops again, children to return to schools, and families to rebuild homes. This, he said, is the purpose of ‘Mission Chardi Kala,’ symbolizing strength in adversity and hope in darkness.
Mann appealed to Punjabis, Indian citizens, industrialists, artists, charitable trusts, and the global Punjabi diaspora to support Punjab in this hour of need. He urged them to contribute generously, assuring that every rupee would be used with complete honesty and transparency for rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. Donations can be made via www.rangla.punjab.gov.in. He expressed confidence that Punjabis would once again prove their resilience and remain in ‘Chardi Kala.’
The Chief Minister announced that a special war room has been established in his office to oversee all activities related to Mission Chardi Kala, with daily monitoring under his personal supervision.
Additionally, Mann held a video conference with all District Deputy Commissioners to review flood relief efforts. He directed them to visit relief camps and affected areas daily to ensure no inconvenience to the public. He informed them about Mission Chardi Kala, reiterating that every penny collected will be dedicated to rehabilitating flood-affected individuals.
Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, and others were present at the event.
