Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, May 16

A Milestone in the Fight Against Drugs

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alongside Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, launched the ‘Nasha Mukti Yatra’ from Langroya village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on May 16, 2025. This initiative marks a pivotal step in the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, aimed at eradicating the drug menace from the state. During the event, Mann and Kejriwal administered an oath to residents, urging them to join as active warriors in this battle against drug abuse.

Langroya Sets a Drug-Free Example

Langroya village declared itself drug-free, earning praise from CM Mann, who lauded the village Panchayat for leading by example in the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign. Expressing gratitude, Mann highlighted the community’s role in supporting the police and called for replicating this model across Punjab. He reiterated his resolve to wipe out the “blot of drugs” from Punjab, emphasizing that collective public participation is key to success.

Intensified Anti-Drug Campaign

Under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, the government is conducting daily Gram Sabhas in 351 villages—three from each constituency—to raise awareness about drug abuse, promote de-addiction centers, and support rehabilitation. CM Mann stressed the government’s focus on holistic support for addicts, including treatment, counseling, and vocational training, to help them reintegrate into society as productive citizens. He noted that over the past two years, the government has disrupted drug supply chains, arrested major drug lords, confiscated their properties, and prioritized rehabilitation.

Women’s Role in the Movement

Mann highlighted the significant participation of women in the event, calling it a positive sign. He stated, “When women rise in such numbers to eliminate a menace, it will be eradicated swiftly.” He expressed confidence that with women’s active involvement, Punjab would soon be completely drug-free.

Empowering Girls and Youth

The Chief Minister underscored the government’s efforts to empower girls through education, noting that transport facilities have been provided to 10,000 girl students in government schools. He added that girls are now outnumbering boys in every field, emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment for an egalitarian society. Additionally, Mann announced that over 54,000 merit-based jobs have been provided to the youth, ensuring their active role in Punjab’s socio-economic development.

Revamping Education and Health Systems

Mann detailed the government’s efforts to rejuvenate Punjab’s education and health sectors. He highlighted the establishment of Schools of Eminence to provide quality education, noting that sending children to government schools has shifted from a compulsion to a preference for many families. The government remains committed to the holistic development of the state, ensuring the well-being of all sections of society, especially the youth.

Protecting Punjab’s Interests

CM Mann reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Punjab’s interests, citing the government’s opposition to the central government, BBMB, and Haryana’s attempts to divert the state’s water resources. He stated that Punjab, having upgraded its canal system, requires water for the upcoming paddy season and will not share even a single drop with other states. Unlike past leaders, Mann emphasized that his government prioritizes the state’s growth and prosperity, engaging directly with citizens to incorporate their feedback.

Vision for a Vibrant Punjab

Mann described Punjabis as global citizens excelling worldwide, asserting that with public support, the government is working toward a ‘Rangla Punjab.’ The fight against drugs is a cornerstone of this vision, with the ‘Nasha Mukti Yatra’ symbolizing a mass movement to transform the state. Drawing inspiration from Punjab’s legacy of Gurus, saints, and martyrs, Mann vowed to continue this crusade against drugs with unwavering determination.
