Local Bodies Minister and MP Seechewal Inspect Temporary Pumping Station Work Near Gaushala IPS Site

Directions Given to Expedite Biogas Plant Projects and Ensure Proper Functioning of CETPs and STPs in the Dyeing Industry

Chandigarh/Ludhiana, January 2:

Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, inspected the progress of the temporary pumping station being established near the Gaushala point of ‘Buddha Dariya’ on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, ADC Rohit Gupta, MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, and officials from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) were present during the site inspection.

The temporary pumping station is a part of the ‘Kar Sewa’ initiative led by MP Seechewal to clean the Buddha Dariya. It is designed to redirect sewerage waste from the Gaushala point to the STP at Jamalpur until a permanent Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) can be constructed at the Gaushala site. The construction of the Gaushala IPS is currently delayed due to an ongoing court case. Dr. Ravjot Singh discussed measures to expedite the pending project during his visit.

Dr. Singh also instructed PPCB and civic body officials to ensure that cow dung and industrial waste are not dumped into the Buddha Dariya. Directions were issued to fast-track the establishment of biogas plants at Haibowal and Tajpur Road dairy complexes, which will use cow dung to generate biogas. Until the plants are operational, temporary arrangements must be made for the collection and proper disposal of cow dung at designated points.

Reiterating the Punjab government’s commitment to cleaning the Buddha Dariya, Dr. Singh commended the efforts under the ‘Kar Sewa’ initiative led by MP Seechewal. He emphasized that the temporary pumping station will help reduce pollution by ensuring that domestic sewerage waste is treated at the Jamalpur STP before entering the river.

Dr. Singh assured that all necessary measures are being taken to reduce pollution in the Buddha Dariya and affirmed that strict instructions have been issued to concerned departments to uphold these efforts.
