Ludhiana, June 9
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a spirited election campaign on Sunday for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sanjeev Arora in the Ludhiana West assembly constituency. Addressing large gatherings in Jawaddi village and Ward Number 64, Mann urged people to support AAP’s vision of development and progress. He was joined by AAP Rajya Sabha member and cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who lent his voice to the campaign, strongly endorsing Arora’s leadership and the party’s achievements.
Harbhajan Singh, speaking at the event, described Sanjeev Arora as Punjab’s most hardworking parliamentarian. “Sanjeev Arora is tirelessly working for Ludhiana, resolving key issues like road repairs, canal bridges, and railway station upgrades. His dedication to the city’s development is unmatched,” he said. Singh also highlighted the Mann government’s historic achievements in education and sports, emphasizing AAP’s commitment to transforming Punjab.
Sanjeev Arora, addressing the gathering, outlined the work done for Ludhiana over the past three years, from upgrading infrastructure to addressing public concerns. He reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “As your MLA from Ludhiana West, I promise to work four times harder to bring prosperity and development to my constituency.

The events saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, reflecting strong support for Sanjeev Arora and AAP. CM Mann appealed to voters to reject arrogance and corruption, choosing Sanjeev Arora as their representative to embrace honesty, hard work, and a better future.
Mann began his speech by thanking the large crowd, saying, “Your presence without any pressure or inducement is highly encouraging. Unlike other parties that bring people on daily wages with bribes, we issued a small invitation, and you’ve gathered in such large numbers. This reflects your trust in our three-and-a-half years of governance.”
He remarked, “These elections shouldn’t have been necessary since you had already given your verdict, but unfortunately, our MLA Gogi Ji passed away. We trust you to uphold the confidence you’ve shown in us. Pressing the broom button on June 19 will end your responsibility and start ours. We guarantee to maintain your trust.”
Mann urged voters to dedicate 10-15 minutes to vote for Punjab, Ludhiana, and their children’s future. “There are 192 booths, each with 700-800 voters on average. Voting and returning home won’t take more than 10-15 minutes. Just ensure you press the broom button—our symbol is at the top.”
Launching a sharp attack on opponents, Mann warned, “Don’t even look at other candidates’ pictures; their corruption will blind you. These are the same people who have looted Punjab for years.”
Targeting Congress candidate Ashu, Mann exposed his arrogance and misplaced priorities, saying, “His arrogance and anger are at their peak. If this is his attitude now, what will he do as an MLA? Our government is in place. Even if he wins, he’ll spend the next year and a half abusing me—what will he gain? As a minister, he did nothing but insult people.”
Referring to the opposition’s campaign strategy, Mann said, “They campaign with arrogance, while we seek votes with love and respect. They chant ‘Ashu chahiye,’ but who is he? Nelson Mandela? Earlier, voting for him was a compulsion, but now people have an honest alternative.”
Mann advised voters to choose candidates who understand their homes and issues, not those entangled in party infighting. “They’re too busy fighting their party and leaders; as MLAs, they’ll do the same,” he added.
Sharing the stage with cricketing legend Harbhajan Singh, Mann expressed pride, saying, “Harbhajan Singh, who has brought immense pride to our country and state, is with us today.” He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting sports, announcing ongoing schemes to support athletes and citing the state-level campaign ‘Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan’ to revive Punjab’s sports heritage. “Our children will step into playgrounds, stay physically fit, and stay away from drugs. Sports are a key part of our fight against drug abuse,” he said.
Recalling touching moments, Mann noted how families across three generations are now uniting on playgrounds. “Punjab is known for its love of sports, and we’re working to revive that passion.”
On Sanjeev Arora, Mann said, “He has a passion for serving people. He’s committed to winning with public blessings and dedicating himself to their service. He worked with enthusiasm before; now he’ll work with responsibility.” He praised Arora’s zeal and determination to bring positive change to Ludhiana West.
Mann highlighted his government’s achievements in education, health, infrastructure, and sports, stating, “We’re building playgrounds in every village. We’re reviving government schools, and the results are clear—44 students from our government schools and Schools of Eminence have cleared the JEE Advanced exam, all from ordinary homes.” He stressed that education alone can eradicate poverty, as no scheme or card can, but educated children can, securing jobs with ₹50 lakh packages to lift their families out of poverty.
Emphasizing his administration’s integrity, Mann said, “Our intentions are clear. We want Punjab to prosper in business, agriculture, sports, and ensure respect for all communities.” He announced a ₹1.10 crore grant for a local school, noting that people now discuss jobs and development.
Mann criticized past administrations for keeping Punjab dependent and backward, saying, “We were limited to schemes like atta-dal. They taught us to beg with folded hands instead of empowering us. Those who tried to rise with talent were suppressed. We come from ordinary homes, understand poverty, and can’t value golden taps or comprehend farmers’ struggles if unaware of drying canals.”
He also slammed opposition leaders like Bajwa, Randhawa, and Channi for their discontent with an ordinary person in power, accusing them of misleading people. “They use English to spread lies, but remember—whenever they speak in English, they’re lying,” he said.
Mann showcased achievements like providing 54,154 government jobs and waiving loans for Scheduled Caste families, criticizing past governments for looting public money. He promised, “Every rupee stolen from you will be returned with interest. I won’t let anyone exploit the people.”
He concluded, “We’re not in their league; we’re far ahead. They looted in the name of religion and the poor’s rights. My government stands for every Punjabi’s impartiality, transparency, and empowerment.”
