Meta’s annual Connect keynote marked a major advancement in wearable technology and metaverse development, spotlighting the much-anticipated Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. These cutting-edge glasses incorporate a full-color, high-resolution display in the right lens, allowing users to check messages, conduct video calls, view live captions, get walking directions, and preview images from the integrated 12-megapixel camera. Operated via a wristband for natural gestures, they provide up to six hours of battery life for mixed usage and will be available starting September 30 at a price of $799.
Broadening its smart eyewear lineup, Meta launched an enhanced second-generation Ray-Ban model with an eight-hour battery and 3K video recording capabilities. Complementing this is the new Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, designed for high-intensity sports. Featuring an IP67 rating, fitness app compatibility, and a 12MP camera with sophisticated capture options, the Vanguards are priced at $499.
In addition to wearables, Meta announced key upgrades to its Quest VR platform. The innovative Hyperscape tool enables Quest 3 users to scan and convert their real-world environment into virtual spaces. Horizon TV, a fresh entertainment center, seamlessly integrates streaming giants like Disney Plus, ESPN, and Hulu into Quest headsets, offering Dolby Atmos audio and immersive effects for selected titles. Powering these innovations, the Horizon Engine delivers superior graphics and performance, complemented by an AI assistant in Horizon Studio that simplifies virtual world building. These revelations highlight Meta’s unwavering commitment to weaving digital immersion into daily routines, advancing toward a more engaging and inclusive metaverse that transcends specialized uses to encompass practical enhancements for work, entertainment, and interaction.
