PSPCL Junior Engineer Arrested Red-Handed for ₹4,000 Bribe in Fazilka

Punjab Vigilance Bureau Nabs PSPCL Junior Engineer Red-Handed Accepting ₹4,000 Bribe in Fazilka

Chandigarh, February 17

In a swift anti-corruption operation, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Junior Engineer Swarn Singh, posted at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office in Fazilka district, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹4,000 from a complainant.

An official spokesperson for the VB disclosed that the arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by a resident of village Gagan Ke, district Fazilka. The complainant, engaged in agricultural activities, reported that a family member had illegally connected a direct wire to the main electricity line to restore supply due to a faulty meter.

Upon inspection, Junior Engineer Swarn Singh identified the irregularity and threatened to register a power theft case against the family. During a subsequent meeting at his office, the accused demanded ₹5,000 as a bribe to drop the matter. The complainant secretly recorded the bribe demand conversation. After negotiation, the amount was settled at ₹4,000.

Following verification of the complaint and preliminary inquiry, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a well-planned trap. The accused was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount of ₹4,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Swarn Singh at the VB Police Station in Ferozepur. Investigations are ongoing to uncover any further details or involvement.

This arrest is part of the Punjab government’s sustained crackdown on corruption, particularly in public utilities and departments dealing with essential services like electricity. The VB continues to encourage citizens to report corrupt practices without fear.
