Punjab and Kerala Collaborate to Address NRI Issues

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala)/Chandigarh, July 26:

In a significant development, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have engaged in discussions to address critical concerns affecting Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from both states.

Key Discussions and Decisions:

  • Agricultural Land Purchase: Punjab’s NRIs Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, shared that discussions centered on allowing NRIs to purchase agricultural land, a privilege currently limited to commercial land. Both states decided to jointly appeal to the Union Government for a policy change that would benefit NRIs.
  • Indian Missions Staffing: They also urged the Union Government to ensure that Indian Missions worldwide have staff proficient in the native languages of Punjab and Kerala. This would enhance support and services for NRIs from these states.

This collaborative effort highlights the commitment of both Punjab and Kerala to address the concerns of their diaspora communities.
