Bold Initiative Set to Transform the State’s Education Landscape

CM Vows to Shape a Bright Future for Punjab’s Youth

Manish Sisodia Praises Punjab’s Education Overhaul

Nawanshehar, April 7, 2025:

In a groundbreaking move to redefine education in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday unveiled the ambitious Rs 2000 crore ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ initiative, marking a new chapter in the state’s educational transformation. The announcement came during the dedication of a cutting-edge block at the School of Eminence in Nawanshehar, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the education and health sectors.

Speaking at the event, CM Mann emphasized the state’s relentless efforts to revamp government schools, turning them from a last resort into a preferred choice for parents. “Once a compulsion for the common man, sending children to government schools is now a matter of pride, thanks to our revamped system,” he said. The Schools of Eminence, established across Punjab, are designed to deliver world-class education and prepare students for a competitive future.

Mann highlighted the government’s dedication to the youth, stating, “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the holistic development of Punjab and the prosperity of its people. Our focus is on grooming students to excel in every field.” He contrasted this with past administrations, accusing them of neglecting education while their own children attended elite convent schools. “Government schools were reduced to mid-day meal centers under previous regimes,” he remarked sharply.

The CM also took a swipe at political adversaries, claiming that those who denied students quality education and committed sacrilege against Sri Guru Granth Sahib are now facing the consequences. “Punjabis have ousted them from power, and they are fading into political oblivion,” he asserted.

Outlining key reforms, Mann revealed that teachers are being sent abroad and to top national institutes for advanced training, boosting admission rates in government schools. “Punjab is witnessing an education revolution, with well-trained staff and a singular focus on learning,” he said, adding that over 54,000 merit-based jobs have been provided to the youth, free of corruption or favoritism.

The CM also addressed the state’s fight against drugs through the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign, emphasizing efforts to dismantle supply lines and confiscate illegally acquired properties of drug smugglers. “We won’t let smugglers thrive at the cost of our youth,” he declared.

A flagship initiative under ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ is the School Mentorship Program, where IAS/IPS officers will adopt rural schools for five years, mentoring students and training teachers. “This voluntary service will prepare students for competitive exams and elevate the education ecosystem,” Mann explained.

With 11% of the state budget (Rs 18,047 crore) allocated to education, Mann expressed pride in the progress, noting that exceptionally bright students are now thriving in government schools. Additionally, Parents-Teachers Meetings (PTMs) are fostering greater engagement, with lakhs of parents actively involved in their children’s education.

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, also present, hailed Punjab’s transformation. “The state is empowering people through quality education, not divisive politics,” he said, noting that over 12,000 schools have been revamped in three years, benefiting 29 lakh students with top-tier facilities and teachers. Sisodia contrasted this with Delhi’s current government, accusing it of doubling private school fees and neglecting the poor.

Sisodia lauded Punjab’s dual strategy against drugs—cracking down on supply while curbing demand through education—predicting a drug-free future for the state. The event was attended by MP Malwinder Singh Kang, MLAs Dr Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi and Nachattar Pal, Secretary Education Anindita Mitra, and other dignitaries, marking a united front for Punjab’s educational resurgence.
