Following an attack on Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav visited the city and chaired high-level meetings to address the situation and reinforce policing strategies.

Within hours of the 3 a.m. attack on Tuesday, DGP Yadav arrived in Amritsar and directed officers to take strict action against the perpetrators. He emphasized the use of both technical and human intelligence to apprehend those responsible and stressed the importance of scientific investigation methods, including forensic tools, to ensure successful convictions.

Review of Border District Security:

DGP Yadav also reviewed the law and order situation in border districts and assessed progress in previous attacks on police establishments. He highlighted the successful resolution of past incidents, including the IED planting at Ajnala Police Station and the hand grenade attack at Police Post Asron in Nawanshahr.

Meeting with Border District Officers:

In a separate meeting with Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), and Station House Officers (SHOs) from border districts (Amritsar Commissionerate, Amritsar Rural, Batala, and Tarn Taran), DGP Yadav outlined key priorities for the Punjab Police.

These priorities include:

  • Intensifying the fight against counter-terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and street crime.
  • Ensuring professional handling of such crimes and prompt registration of First Information Reports (FIRs).
  • Encouraging prompt action on tips received via the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline ‘9779100200’, which allows for anonymous reporting of drug traffickers.

The DGP also participated in a “Bada Khana” lunch with Amritsar police officers, fostering communication and teamwork.

Visit to Jalandhar and Brainstorming Session:

DGP Yadav subsequently visited Jalandhar and held a similar meeting with senior officers, including CP Jalandhar Swapan Sharma, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, and other key officials. A brainstorming session for officers at the “cutting edge level” (frontline officers) followed, focusing on experience sharing and crime solutions.

During this session, the successful model used by Police Station Aur in SBS Nagar to combat drug trafficking through public cooperation was discussed. The DGP commended various crime-fighting techniques employed by different districts, such as crime mapping in Jalandhar city, the use of appropriate Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for organized crime in Hoshiarpur, extensive CCTV usage and sub-divisional control rooms in Kapurthala, and focused professional policing in Jalandhar Rural, including campaigns targeting those involved in serious offenses and traffic enforcement focusing on two-wheelers.
