Punjab Government Approves ₹23.99 Crore Infra Boost for Sahnewal

Mega Sewerage Project for Historic Sri Bhaini Sahib and New Sub-Tehsil Complex at Sahnewal Sanctioned

Projects to Significantly Upgrade Sanitation and Administrative Services in Ludhiana District: Hardeep Singh Mundian

Chandigarh/Ludhiana, March 24

In a major step towards strengthening rural infrastructure and public service delivery, the Punjab Government has approved two key development projects worth ₹23.99 crore for Sahnewal in Ludhiana district.

This includes a mega sewerage scheme for the historic village of Sri Bhaini Sahib and the construction of a modern Sub-Tehsil Complex at Sahnewal.

Disclosing the details, Cabinet Minister Hardeep Mundian informed that ₹13.36 crore has been sanctioned for the sewerage project in Sri Bhaini Sahib. The project envisages laying 1.80 km of main/intercepting sewer and 18.13 km of lateral sewer network, along with 670 household sewer connections. It also includes the construction of a main pumping station and installation of a 1.0 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant.

The demand for the project was jointly raised by the Village Panchayat and Sri Bhaini Sahib Sect Management Committee due to the growing population and outdated infrastructure. On January 9, 2026, Minister Mundian along with senior officers visited the village and noted that the existing sewer system, laid in 2001-02, had become obsolete and the village had no sewage treatment facility.

In another important decision, the government has approved ₹10.64 crore for the construction of a new Sub-Tehsil Complex at Sahnewal. The complex aims to strengthen administrative infrastructure and provide hassle-free access to revenue and other citizen-centric services for residents of Sahnewal and surrounding areas, reducing the need to travel to Ludhiana.

Mundian said these projects will significantly improve sanitation facilities in Sri Bhaini Sahib and enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery at the grassroots level in Sahnewal.

He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mann for the swift approval of both projects and reiterated that the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening rural and semi-urban infrastructure while ensuring better civic amenities and governance across the state.
