Punjab Police Boosts Border Security with 2300 New CCTV Cameras and Enhanced Infrastructure

Chandigarh/Pathankot, February 3
Punjab Police is significantly enhancing security in its border districts, from Pathankot to Fazilka, with the installation of 2300 CCTV cameras at 703 strategic locations. DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the ₹45 crore project during a visit to Pathankot, where he inaugurated several key police infrastructure projects.
These projects included a new Cyber Crime Police Station, located within Police Station Division-1. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped to handle complex cybercrimes, offering swift solutions to victims of online fraud. Citizens can report cybercrimes directly to the station or via the toll-free helpline 1930.
DGP Yadav also inaugurated a revamped Police Command and Control Centre in Pathankot. This center will enhance surveillance capabilities by monitoring entry and exit points across the district through 344 HD cameras, including ANPR (Auto Number Plate Reader) cameras. Live feeds from key areas, such as the second line of defense, rural areas, and Pathankot city, will be monitored. An additional 357 cameras are also planned for installation to further strengthen security.
During his visit, DGP Yadav chaired a joint meeting with officers from Punjab Police, the Indian Army, and the Border Security Force (BSF) at Police Station Narot Jaimal Singh. He commended the Pathankot Police for their coordination and efforts in addressing drone crossings and terrorist activities. He emphasized the need for joint action among all agencies to dismantle the nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers, who operate under the direction of Pakistan’s ISI. He stressed the importance of information sharing and inter-agency coordination to effectively combat these threats.

DGP Yadav also recognized the contributions of high-performing officials and personnel from Punjab Police and the BSF, awarding them DGP Commendation Discs and appreciation letters. He also participated in a ‘Bada Khana’ lunch with Pathankot Police officers of all ranks, fostering camaraderie and open communication within the force.
Later, DGP Yadav visited the BSF’s Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost (BOP) on the Indo-Pak border to assess security arrangements and interact with deployed forces.
The inauguration of the Cyber Crime Police Station was attended by several dignitaries and senior officers, including Sh. Satinder Singh, IPS, DIG Border Range; Sh. Yuvraj Dubay, DIG BSF Gurdaspur Sector; Sh. Jatinder Pal Singh Khurmi, District and Sessions Judge, Pathankot; Sh. Aditya Uppal, IAS, DC Pathankot; Sh. Charanjit Singh Sohal, IPS, SSP Amritsar (Rural); Sh. Harish Dayama, IPS, SSP Gurdaspur; Sh. Sohail Mir, IPS, SSP Batala; Sh. Daljinder Singh Dhillon, PPS, SSP Pathankot; and Colonel Malay Baiya, SM, Kamoon Regiment (Army), Commandant Sunil Mishra 121 Bn BSF and Commandant Sh Kamal Yadav 58 Bn BSF.
