Chandigarh, October 18:

In a major breakthrough during the ongoing efforts to ensure Punjab’s safety, as per Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives, Punjab Police has solved the murder of Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, also known as Bhodi. Three members of the gang led by gangster-turned-terrorist Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dalla, who masterminded the murder, have been arrested, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday.

DGP Yadav, along with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, DIG Faridkot Range Ashwani Kapur, and SSP Faridkot Dr. Pragya Jain, briefed the media at Punjab Police Headquarters.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bilal Ahmed alias Fauji, Guramardeep Singh alias Pontu, and Arshdeep Singh alias Jhandu.

According to the investigation, Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau was shot dead on October 9, 2024, while returning home from Gurudwara Sahib on his motorcycle (PB-04U-3258).

DGP Yadav explained that the murder was orchestrated from abroad by Arsh Dalla and his associates. Separate teams were used for the recce and execution of the murder, with different handlers abroad. Criminals employed cut-outs to obscure the conspiracy.

“The three arrested were part of the recce team, managed by Canada-based Karamveer Singh alias Gora. This team passed critical information to the shooter team via handlers and cut-outs,” Yadav explained.

The DGP noted that the shooter team has been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

During the investigation, evidence surfaced linking Amritpal Singh of Waris Punjab De (WPD) to the conspiracy. Statements recorded during the probe suggest the murder was committed at his behest.

DGP Yadav assured that the case would be handled professionally and based on evidence. All aspects of the crime will be thoroughly examined, and the liability of those involved will be determined in accordance with the law.

Sharing further details, Yadav said a Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising officials from Faridkot district and the State Special Operations Cell, was quickly formed. Teams were tasked with visiting the crime scene and collecting physical and digital evidence.

CCTV footage from the crime scene was analyzed, and police teams traced the suspects’ movements by examining CCTV footage over a 125-kilometer stretch. Investigators also used mobile tower data and big data analysis tools to identify the suspects. Human intelligence was gathered, and overseas contacts were used to collect additional information.

The investigation also revealed a larger conspiracy to target more individuals, which is now being explored. The DGP emphasized that the Punjab Police is taking the matter very seriously and is determined to uncover the entire plot. No one will be allowed to disturb the peace and harmony of the state.

“Further arrests are expected as investigations continue,” DGP Yadav stated, reaffirming Punjab Police’s commitment to bringing all responsible parties to justice.

A case (FIR No. 159 dated 10-10-2024) was registered under sections 103(1), 126(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Kotkapura Police Station.
