Punjab Police Thwarts Gang War, Busts Interstate Arms Syndicate

Amritsar Police Arrests Kingpin Sukha Pistol and Associates

Chandigarh/Amritsar, July 8: In a major victory for the ongoing campaign to create a safe and secure Punjab, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled an interstate organized crime syndicate. The operation, conducted under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, led to the arrest of the syndicate’s kingpin and four accomplices.

Key Arrests and Recovered Weapons

  • Jai Sharma alias Sukha Pistol Ambarsarya: Kingpin of the syndicate, resident of Prem Nagar, Amritsar. He has a history of seven criminal cases.
  • Four Associates:
    • Nikhil Sharma alias Lala (Sandhu Colony, Amritsar)
    • Moni (Kot Khalsa, Amritsar)
    • Arpit Thakur (Sri Naina Devi, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh)
    • Karan Sharma (Sri Naina Devi, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh)
  • Recovered Weapons: Two .32 bore pistols, three magazines, and eight live cartridges.

Swift Action by Amritsar Police

Acting on reliable intelligence, Amritsar Police tracked Sukha Pistol and his associates after they travelled to Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, to procure illegal weapons. Upon their return, police teams swiftly located and apprehended them in a flat situated in Kharar.

Preventing Gang Violence

DGP Gaurav Yadav highlighted that the arrested individuals were planning an attack on a rival gang. To combat such organized crime, they have been charged under the newly implemented Section 111 (Organized Crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)

Further Investigation Underway

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon emphasized that the syndicate was involved in various criminal activities, including theft, snatching, and arms trafficking. Ongoing investigations aim to identify any additional members and the Madhya Pradesh-based arms suppliers. More arrests and recoveries are anticipated.

Case Details

An FIR (First Information Report) No. 118 dated July 7, 2024, has been registered under Section 111 of the BNS and 25(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station Civil Line, Amritsar.
