Punjab Police’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ Continues: 75 Drug Smugglers Arrested on Day 5, 27 kg Heroin Seized

Chandigarh, March 5:
Punjab Police’s relentless campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, continued for the fifth consecutive day, resulting in the arrest of 75 drug smugglers and the seizure of 27.7 kg of heroin and ₹3.06 lakh in drug money. This brings the total number of arrests to 547 in five days.
The operation, conducted under the direction of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, spanned all 28 police districts. In addition to heroin and drug money, police teams also recovered 400 grams of opium and 2060 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla reported that over 200 police teams, comprising over 1300 personnel and supervised by 80 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 356 locations across the state. These raids led to the registration of 48 FIRs. Police teams also checked 416 suspicious individuals during the operation.
CM Bhagwant Mann has reiterated his commitment to making Punjab drug-free within three months, with a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema overseeing the anti-drug campaign.
As part of the state government’s comprehensive strategy (Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention), Punjab Police is actively involved in de-addiction and prevention efforts alongside enforcement. On Wednesday, six individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, and 165 awareness events were organized across the state.
