Punjab Power and PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has urged the Central government to provide subsidies for biomass power projects to address the pressing issue of stubble burning in northern states.
During a recent conference of Power Ministers in Delhi, ETO highlighted the need for a Rs 5 crore subsidy per megawatt for biomass energy plants. He emphasized that this financial support would incentivize the adoption of sustainable practices and reduce pollution.
ET0 also called for an increase in the subsidy limit for solar agriculture pumps under the PM KUSUM scheme to 15 HP, given the declining groundwater levels in Punjab.

He further requested the Union Power Minister to expedite the development of two large-scale pumping storage projects in Himachal Pradesh by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Additionally, ETO suggested reducing the margin charged by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to alleviate the financial burden on Punjab.
Finally, he proposed the establishment of mega power generation plants in coal-producing states to reduce transportation costs for states like Punjab, which are located far from coal sources.
By implementing these measures, Punjab aims to promote clean energy, reduce pollution, and ensure a sustainable future for its people.
