Punjab Shines in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 with Significant Cleanliness Gains

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab has made substantial strides in enhancing cleanliness and sanitation, as reflected in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 results announced today by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state have significantly improved their cleanliness and sanitation standards, showcasing remarkable progress in the national cleanliness survey.
Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh shared that Punjab has achieved a historic milestone, with 46 ULBs securing Water Plus certification, the highest number among all states in this survey. Additionally, 52 ULBs were certified as ODF++ (Open Defecation Free Plus), 43 as ODF+, and 22 as ODF. Nine ULBs also earned a place among the top 100 cleanest ULBs in the country, highlighting Punjab’s commitment to the cleanliness mission.
Dr. Ravjot Singh further noted that under the Garbage Free City Star Rating, 25 ULBs achieved a one-star rating, the highest number since 2016. Mandi Gobindgarh stood out by securing a prestigious three-star rating, while Bathinda Municipal Corporation was honored with the State Award for Promising Swachh Shahar. The state continues to prioritize improving cleanliness, sanitation facilities, and solid waste management, with funds allocated to ULBs to strengthen infrastructure and monitor ongoing development works, including sanitation initiatives. “We are dedicated to building a cleaner, greener, and healthier Punjab,” Dr. Ravjot affirmed.

Expressing optimism, the Cabinet Minister stated, “This is just the beginning, and we will strive for even better results in the future.” He emphasized that special focus will be given to urban areas to ensure enhanced facilities for citizens.
Dr. Ravjot extended gratitude to all Municipal Commissioners, ULBs, and Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) field functionaries for their relentless efforts in achieving garbage-free and clean status for Punjab. He expressed confidence that this momentum will carry forward in the coming years.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Dr. Ravjot said, “We are working toward a vibrant, progressive, and prosperous Punjab. This performance is encouraging, and we will intensify our efforts to further improve urban local governance.”
