Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala)/Chandigarh, July 25:
Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, has announced the state’s intention to adopt the Kerala model to effectively address illegal migration and ensure the well-being of its Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). The minister is currently on a visit to Kerala to study the successful initiatives implemented by the NORKA (Non-Resident Keralites Affairs) department.
Impressed by Kerala’s strategies in preventing illegal migration and facilitating safe and legal migration, Dhaliwal emphasized Punjab’s commitment to replicating similar approaches. To achieve this, the state plans to establish a dedicated agency, modeled after NORKA, to oversee migration-related matters and provide comprehensive support to Punjabi NRIs.

Minister Dhaliwal reiterated the Punjab government’s unwavering dedication to protecting the interests of its citizens and preventing illegal migration.
The Kerala government’s NORKA department has been instrumental in implementing various welfare schemes and initiatives for the benefit of the Keralite diaspora. The department’s field agency actively works to ensure that non-resident Keralites have access to government programs and services.
The Punjab delegation, led by Minister Dhaliwal, included key officials from the NRI Affairs department. The Kerala side was represented by senior officials from NORKA and related departments.
