Chandigarh, July 10
In a major step toward leveraging Punjab’s renewable energy potential, the Punjab Government has announced plans to install 30 MW solar power plants on the rooftops of 390 government buildings across the state by March 2026, according to Aman Arora, Minister of New & Renewable Energy Sources, Punjab.
Project Overview
During a review meeting with Dr. Sukhchain Gogi, Chairperson of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), and Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary of New & Renewable Energy, Minister Arora outlined the details of the ₹150-crore project. The initiative is expected to:

Generate clean energy to power government facilities.

Save ₹15 crore annually in electricity costs for various departments.

Reduce Punjab’s carbon footprint, contributing to climate change mitigation.
The tendering process for the project has been completed, ensuring timely implementation.

Punjab’s Progress in Renewable Energy
Minister Arora highlighted the state’s advancements in renewable energy, noting that 1098 government buildings have already been equipped with solar rooftops, generating a collective capacity of 7.7 MW over the past three years. This reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to a sustainable energy future under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
