Punjab Vigilance Bureau Nabs Naib Court Red-Handed Accepting ₹10,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), continuing its drive against corruption, has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector Tarlochan Singh, posted as Naib Court in Ludhiana Court, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 and a pair of grey Skechers shoes.

An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau stated that the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana.

According to the complaint, a case was registered against the complainant and his licensed pistol was seized by the police during his arrest. The complainant alleged that the accused Naib Court demanded ₹10,000 and a pair of Skechers shoes in exchange for helping him get his licensed pistol released in the ongoing court case. The complainant had secretly recorded the entire conversation in which the bribe and shoes were demanded.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Ludhiana range office. After a preliminary enquiry, the VB team laid a trap and arrested the Naib Court red-handed while he was accepting ₹10,000 in cash and a pair of grey Skechers shoes from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
