Wing collects Rs. 1.10 crore from April to July 2025

The Legal Metrology Wing of Punjab’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has shown remarkable progress in 2025, with significant increases in compounding fees, inspections, and verifications from April to July compared to the same period last year.
The wing collected Rs. 1.10 crore in compounding fees this year, a 121% jump from Rs. 49.68 lakh collected during the same period in 2024. Inspections rose from 5,753 last year to 11,035 this year, while registered cases increased from 587 to 1,531. Additionally, verifications of commercial establishments grew from 41,625 in 2024 to 42,733 in 2025.
During a review meeting at Anaj Bhawan, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Lal Chand Kataruchak, praised the wing’s officers for their dedication and urged them to continue their efforts with greater zeal. He was informed that the wing operates standard laboratories in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala, with new labs proposed for Sirhind and Khanna.
Addressing the need for restructuring and modernized equipment, Kataruchak directed officers to submit detailed proposals for thorough review and swift action.
The Legal Metrology Wing’s primary goal is to protect consumers by ensuring the accuracy of quantities and volumes in goods sold and purchased.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Rahul Tiwari, Additional Secretary PUNGRAIN Kamal Kumar Garg, and Controller of Legal Metrology Wing Manohar Singh.
