Senior Officials Step Up to Inspire School Students Toward Ambitious Life Goals: Education Minister
Chandigarh, April 8, 2025 –
Punjab’s innovative “School Mentorship Program,” launched under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has struck a chord with the state’s bureaucracy. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced today that within just three days of its inception on April 4, a remarkable 100 officers—including IAS, IPS, PCS, and others—have volunteered to mentor students in government schools, reflecting an enthusiastic embrace of this pioneering initiative.
This first-of-its-kind program aims to bridge the gap between dreams and opportunities for government school students by enlisting senior officials as mentors. The goal: to inspire and guide young minds toward lofty ambitions, transforming Punjab’s education landscape.
A Surge of Young Talent
Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Harjot Singh Bains shared a detailed breakdown of the applications, revealing that over half come from young officers, particularly those who joined public service between 2015 and 2024. Of the 100 applicants, 41 are IAS officers—7 from pre-2005 batches, 14 from 2005-2015, and 20 from post-2016 batches. Similarly, 48 IPS officers have signed up—9 from pre-2005, 16 from 2005-2015, and 23 from post-2016 batches. Additionally, 3 PCS officers and 8 others have expressed keen interest in this noble cause.
Bains expressed delight at the overwhelming participation, noting that officers have shown enthusiasm even for schools in challenging, remote, and border areas like Pathankot, Tarn Taran, and Firozpur. “Seeing so many officers step forward for this transformative mission is truly inspiring. Their mentorship will spark a revolution in Punjab’s education sector,” he said.
Program Details and Open Invitation
The initiative remains open for interested officers, with applications accepted via a Google Form (link: https://forms.gle/V4kcHjjVfsomdJz9A) until April 20, 2025. Bains assured that the exceptional contributions of mentor officers will be recognized at state-level education events, honoring their commitment to shaping young lives.

Mentors will visit their chosen schools to provide career counseling, organize exposure visits, train teachers in innovative techniques, boost parental involvement, introduce modern ideas, and enhance the learning environment. Acting as advisors—not administrators—they’ll motivate students to dream big, help teachers adopt cutting-edge methods, and leverage their networks to improve infrastructure and opportunities.
A Nod to Teachers
During the press conference, Bains also reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s dedication to supporting teachers, condemning derogatory remarks made by MLA Chetan Singh Jouramajra at a “Sikhiya Kranti” event in Patiala the previous day. “Teachers are the backbone of our society, and their dedication deserves respect. We are committed to creating a supportive, dignified environment where they can excel,” he asserted.
A Game-Changer for Punjab
With 100 officers already on board and more expected, the “School Mentorship Program” promises to redefine education in Punjab. By pairing bureaucratic expertise with grassroots education, the state is poised to empower its students like never before—igniting ambition and paving the way for a brighter future.
