Continuing its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Inspector Sunita Bawa, Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Kot Ise Khan in Moga district, along with Punjab Home Guard (PHG) personnel Guravtar Singh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
Disclosing the details here today, a spokesperson for the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said the accused were arrested following a complaint filed by a resident of village Noorpur Hakima in Moga district.
According to the complaint, PHG personnel Guravtar Singh allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from the complainant, threatening that he would otherwise be implicated in a case already registered at Kot Ise Khan Police Station. The complainant alleged that the demand was subsequently reduced to ₹80,000.
The VB spokesperson said Guravtar Singh had already allegedly received ₹20,000 from the complainant and was demanding an additional ₹60,000. During the investigation, it was allegedly found that ₹50,000 of the bribe was intended for SHO Sunita Bawa.

Unwilling to pay the alleged illegal gratification, the complainant approached the VB Range Ferozepur. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. During the operation, Inspector Sunita Bawa was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 from Guravtar Singh in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ferozepur. Further investigation in the case is underway.
