Patiala, September 7 (Sports Desk)
In a significant announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain of India A for the upcoming two multi-day matches against Australia A, scheduled for September 16 and 23 in Lucknow. This marks Iyer’s return to red-ball cricket and provides him an opportunity to stake a claim for a Test team comeback, especially with India’s home series against West Indies, featuring two Tests, approaching soon.
Star-Studded India A Squad Alongside Shreyas Iyer as captain, the squad includes Dhruv Jurel as vice-captain, alongside prominent players like B Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and pacer Prasidh Krishna. The BCCI also confirmed that senior players KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj will join the team for the second multi-day match, adding experience to the lineup. This series is a vital platform for players aiming to secure spots in India’s senior Test squad.
Opportunities for Young Talent The India A squad also features several promising domestic performers, including Ayush Badoni, Harsh Dubey, Tanush Kotian, Manav Suthar, N Jagadeesan, and Gurnoor Brar. The blend of seasoned players and emerging talents underscores the BCCI’s strategy to evaluate its bench strength against a formidable opponent like Australia A.
Series Schedule The two multi-day matches will take place in Lucknow, followed by three one-day games between India A and Australia A in Kanpur on September 30, October 3, and October 5. Notably, Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out due to injury, and players currently part of India’s white-ball squad are unavailable as they prepare for the Asia Cup 2025.
