Chandigarh/Amritsar, June 5
In a significant operation against cross-border drug smuggling, as part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled two international narco-trafficking cartels, arresting six smugglers, including a woman, and seizing 4 kg of heroin. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced this on Thursday.
The arrested individuals are Vishal Singh (23) from Guru Ki Wadali village, Didar Singh alias Kali (50) from Jathaul village, Sevenbir Singh (25) from Burj Sarai Amant Khan village in Tarn Taran, Harjit Singh alias Jita (38) from Baba Deep Singh Colony, Jaj Singh (19) from Mohalla Chetuan, and Jasbir Kaur (60) from Kapatgarh, all in Amritsar. Police also impounded their Toyota Innova car, used for drug deliveries.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations indicate one module was run by Sevenbir Singh, who was directly linked to Pakistan-based smugglers and operated under the pretext of livestock trade. The other module involved Jasbir Kaur, an associate of notorious smuggler Ranjeet alias Cheeta, maintaining contacts with smugglers on both sides of the border. Further probes are underway to trace additional linkages

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, addressing the media, detailed the intel-led operation supervised by DCP City Jagjit Singh Walia, ADCP-2 Harpal Singh, ACP West Shivdarshan Singh, and led by SHO Chheharta Vinod Sharma. He revealed that Sevenbir Singh had been running his cartel under the guise of goat trading for five years, amassing wealth to build a large mansion and other properties in his village, which is near the international border.
CP Bhullar added that Sevenbir received drug consignments via drones, hid them at relatives’ homes, and distributed them through associates. Investigations continue to uncover the full extent of both modules, with more arrests and recoveries anticipated.
