Chandigarh/Amritsar, January 4:
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case of 328 missing saroops (sacred copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib) has arrested two individuals, carried out searches at 14 locations, and seized mobile phones, tablets, laptops, storage devices, and incriminating financial records and documents.
An SIT spokesperson stated today that 16 persons have been named in the FIR registered at Police Station C-Division, Amritsar Commissionerate. Two of the accused are reportedly deceased, while the remaining 14 are under investigation. So far, Satinder Singh Kohli and Kanwaljit Singh (also known as Kawaljit Singh) have been arrested.
The spokesperson added that Kanwaljit Singh was arrested on January 3, 2026. He had served as an assistant and was allegedly directly involved in serious irregularities concerning the maintenance, handling, and unauthorized preparation or storage of the sacred scriptures.
Searches were conducted at 14 locations across Punjab and Chandigarh, including two in Chandigarh, eight in Amritsar city, and one each in Gurdaspur, Ropar (Rupnagar), Tarn Taran, and rural Amritsar. During these operations, seven mobile phones, three tablets, two laptops, one storage device, and incriminating financial records were recovered.

The seized electronic devices will undergo forensic analysis, while the documents and financial records are being examined, particularly payments made by companies associated with several individuals under scrutiny, including politicians.
The SIT is proceeding with the investigation in a systematic and thorough manner, gathering evidence meticulously. Additional searches and arrests are expected as the probe continues.
