The United Sikhs, a U.S.-based advocacy group affiliated with the United Nations, has been actively conducting flood relief operations across various locations in Punjab since August 13, when floodwaters first inundated fields in Ferozepur district.
“Our organization is currently operating relief camps in Ajnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Ramdas, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur,” said Amritpal Singh, who represents the group in Punjab and is coordinating the relief efforts.

“Our current focus is on supporting evacuation, providing medicines, and distributing freshly cooked food,” said Devinder Singh, a United Sikhs volunteer working in Ferozepur. Amritpal Singh further explained, “Once the floodwaters recede, our efforts will shift to providing soaps, detergents, mosquito repellents, and mosquito nets to prevent potential disease outbreaks, which could be more serious than the floods themselves.”
In Dera Baba Nanak, United Sikhs volunteers have arranged defogging machines to spray insecticides, aiming to control mosquito and insect breeding. Amritpal Singh emphasized that all United Sikhs teams worldwide have been mobilized to support Punjab’s cause. “Most of our volunteers globally are Sikhs and Punjabis who prioritize aiding humanity during natural calamities, with Punjab always being a top priority,” he said.
Amritpal Singh also shared plans to assist farmers once the floodwaters fully recede. “We have arranged resources to support de-silting of agricultural lands and will provide diesel and rabi crop seeds to farmers to help them recover,” he added.
