VC Dr. Gill Calls on Punjab Governor & Finance Minister: Pitches 3-Year Roadmap for Sports University Excellence
Patiala, February 14
Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, today called on Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University.
In his first official meeting since taking charge, Dr. Gill briefed the Governor on the university’s current activities and presented a detailed overview of its academic programs, infrastructure development, and institutional progress. He also submitted a comprehensive three-year strategic roadmap designed to accelerate the university’s growth and establish it as a leading centre of excellence in sports education and research in the state.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the university’s initiatives and assured complete support from his office to further strengthen sports education, research, and infrastructure. He stressed the importance of identifying and nurturing young sporting talent to position Punjab as a premier hub for sports excellence in the country.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Gill met Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and shared the university’s ambitious vision to transform the state into a major centre for sports education, cutting-edge research, and high-performance athlete training.

He highlighted key strategic priorities, including:
- Development of world-class sports infrastructure

The Finance Minister assured Dr. Gill of the Punjab Government’s full backing to achieve these goals. He emphasized that engaging the youth in constructive activities like sports remains a top priority for the government, as it not only promotes physical fitness but also builds essential life skills such as discipline, leadership, and teamwork.
Dr. Gill assured both dignitaries that the university would work in close collaboration with the State Government to implement the proposed roadmap in a phased, time-bound, and result-oriented manner. He reiterated the institution’s unwavering commitment to promoting sporting excellence, upholding high academic standards, and harnessing the tremendous potential of Punjab’s youth for positive, nation-building endeavours.
