Vigilance Bureau’s Sting Operation: Patwari Takes ₹25,000 Bribe

Chandigarh, November 21

Continuing its drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Patwari Sarabjit Singh, posted at Revenue Circle Golward (village Bala Chak), District Tarn Taran, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 from a complainant belonging to Amritsar district.

According to a VB spokesperson, the complainant wanted to sell his land and had obtained a copy of the fard (mutation document). Upon checking, he discovered that the land was not registered in his name but in someone else’s name.

When the complainant approached Patwari Sarabjit Singh to get the mutation rectified, the patwari demanded ₹1 lakh to make the correction. After negotiation, the bribe amount was settled at ₹30,000. The patwari had already accepted ₹5,000 as the first instalment on the spot.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Amritsar Range. The accused will be produced before the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation is in progress.
