- OSM Strengthens Punjab Govt’s Commitment to Integrity & Efficiency in Education: Dr. Amarpal Singh
CHANDIGARH, February 13
The Punjab Government is all set to bring a revolutionary change in the evaluation process of board examinations. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is gearing up to launch the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for the March 2026 board exams. Announcing this landmark initiative, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that Punjab will be among the first states in India to fully implement end-to-end digital evaluation, marking a major transformation in how answer sheets are checked and results are prepared.
Sharing more details about the project, Education Minister Bains said: “This digital system will allow teachers to evaluate scanned copies of answer sheets directly on computers. The software will automatically calculate and total the marks, ensuring faster, more accurate, and error-free results.”
Highlighting the proven success of the system, the Minister added: “The On-Screen Marking system has already proven its reliability. During the September 2025 Supplementary Examinations, it successfully and swiftly evaluated 23,000 answer sheets with complete accuracy.”
Inspired by this strong performance, the Punjab School Education Board will introduce On-Screen Marking for one subject in this year’s Matriculation (Class 10) examinations, with plans for gradual expansion to all subjects in future cycles.
Explaining the key security and technical features, Harjot Singh Bains said: “Every page of the newly designed answer sheets will carry a unique QR code, which ensures secure scanning and smooth digital processing. Under the OSM system, answer sheets are scanned in a highly secure environment and uploaded to a centralised digital dashboard. Examiners then evaluate them online using structured digital marking schemes, with automatic totalling of marks and real-time monitoring of progress.”
Describing the initiative as far more than just a technological advancement, the Education Minister emphasised: “This is not merely an upgrade — it is a complete transformation in how we assess our children’s future. It guarantees every student fairness, speed, and precision in the evaluation process.”

PSEB Chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh highlighted the student-centric approach behind the reform. He said: “This initiative reaffirms the commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government to integrity, transparency, and efficiency in education. Students will benefit from quicker result declaration, uniform marking standards, and total transparency in the evaluation process. Teachers will also work on a clean, user-friendly digital platform that promotes consistency and proper record-keeping.”
He further assured that the Board has completed all necessary technical setup, training, and administrative preparations for the full rollout in March 2026.
Dr. Amarpal Singh concluded: “The On-Screen Marking system stands as a strong guarantee of Punjab’s dedication to its students and the future of education.”
