Hulunbuir (China), September 8 (PTI): The Indian men’s hockey team made a winning start to their Asian Champions Trophy campaign on Sunday, defeating hosts China 3-0.
Sukhjinder Singh (14th minute), Uttam Singh (27th minute), and Abhishek (32nd minute) scored for India, while China failed to find the net.

Coming into the tournament after winning a second consecutive Olympic bronze medal, India made the most of their early chances and put up a strong defensive display to secure the win.
Sukhjinder gave India the lead early in the first quarter, while Uttam Singh doubled the lead just three minutes before the end of the second quarter, putting India 2-0 up at half-time.

Abhishek then scored a brilliant reverse hit just two minutes after the restart.
India will next face Japan on Monday in their second Pool A match.
India had won the tournament last year on home soil, becoming the only team to win the title four times in the tournament’s history.
In other matches, Malaysia held Pakistan to a 2-2 draw, while Japan and Korea played out a 5-5 draw.
