The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Kuldeep Singh, a Patwari (now Kanungo) posted in the Dumewal revenue circle, for illegally transferring land in Roopnagar district. Singh allegedly accepted a Rs. 5 lakh bribe to facilitate the transfer of 54 acres of low-valued land in Karuran village to the Punjab Forest Department.

A case was registered against Singh under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The illegal land transfer caused a loss of Rs. 5.35 crores to the state government. Singh was allegedly involved in the fraudulent transfer of land in collusion with private individuals and the then Naib-Tehsildar. He will be presented in court tomorrow, and further investigations are underway.
