Chandigarh, 14 September
In a significant blow to organized crime in Punjab, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested seven members of the notorious Ankush Bhaya gang, including the gang’s leader, Ankush Sabharwal alias Bhaya. The arrests expose links between the gang and major USA-based criminal syndicates, including Goldy Brar, Vikram Brar, and Ravi Balachoria.
The other six arrested members are Pankaj Sabharwal alias Panku, Vishal Sabharwal alias Bhadthu, Harmanpreet Singh alias Harman, Jaskaran Singh Purewal alias Karan alias Jassa, Ariyan Singh, and Rupesh Kumar. Two more gang members, Karan Sabharwal alias Kannu and Dalbir Singh alias Harman alias Bhola alias Langda, have been nominated in the case. Another member, Dibu of Hoshiarpur, is also wanted in connection with the case.
Police teams recovered four pistols, including two .30 bore pistols, one .32 bore pistol, and one .315 bore country-made pistol, along with seven live cartridges and 1000 Alprazolam tablets. They also seized a white Venue car (PB-08-EZ-2018) that the gang members were using.

In a related development, police arrested a police constable, Aryan Singh Shipai, posted at Sadar Nakodar Police Station. He was found to be colluding with the gang, leaking sensitive information, and providing logistical support. The constable had been absent from duty for approximately 1.5 months.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ankush Bhaya was in frequent contact with foreign-based organized criminal Lovepreet Singh alias Ladi and jailed gangster Ravi Balachoria.
With the arrest of these gang members, Jalandhar Rural Police has successfully prevented potential attacks on rival criminals in Hoshiarpur, Mehatpur, and Nakodar, as well as a planned bank robbery. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle their broader network, both locally and internationally.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that police teams intercepted a white Venue car near Malhri village, GT Road, Nakodar City, based on credible information. The occupants of the car were found to be heavily armed and in possession of 1000 Alprazolam intoxicant tablets.
The operation was led by SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Batth, with two police teams headed by Incharge CIA Staff Pushap Bali and SHO City Police Station Sanjeev Kapoor, under the supervision of DSP Investigation, Lakhvir Singh.
Police also arrested the owner of the Venue car, Rupesh, who provided logistical support to the gang, including safe houses and weapon storage.
The arrested gang members have a history of serious criminal activities, including drug trafficking, organized crime, and violent activities.
SSP Khakh termed the arrests a significant victory in breaking the backbone of these violent gangs, stating, “We will ensure that all those involved in illegal activities, no matter how well connected, will be brought to justice.”
A case has been registered under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at Nakodar City Police Station.
