Sri Lanka’s Rising Star Wins ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August 2024

Sri Lanka’s emerging star, Harshitha Madavi, has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August 2024. She outshone Irish duo Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis to claim the prestigious award.
Madavi’s impressive form against Ireland in both ODI and T20I matches solidified her position as one of the rising stars in women’s cricket. This marks the third time a Sri Lankan cricketer has won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award in 2024, following Chamari Athapaththu’s wins in May and July.
In the ODI series against Ireland, Madavi showcased her class with scores of 19, 105, and 48*, finishing as the leading run-scorer. Her century in the second ODI made her only the third Sri Lankan woman to achieve this feat.

Madavi expressed her delight at receiving the award, stating, “I am extremely happy with this recognition, which I consider a new high in my career. It certainly gives me a lot of confidence ahead of the big competition, the Women’s T20 World Cup.”
She attributed her success to the incredible support network around her, including her teammates, coaches, parents, siblings, friends, and mentors. Madavi also acknowledged the strong competition from the other nominees for the Player of the Month award.
