Punjab Police Busts DSP for Corruption, Drug Connections

Chandigarh, September 19

The Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) has booked Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vavinder Kumar Mahajan on corruption charges after uncovering his involvement in protecting drug suppliers.

The ANTF launched an investigation into a case involving the seizure of 1.98 crore Alprazolam tablets and 40 kilograms of raw Alprazolam in February 2024. During the investigation, it was revealed that DSP Mahajan, then posted with the ANTF, and his accomplice Akhil Jai Singh from Lucknow, were involved in a bribery scheme.

The DGP Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, stated that DSP Mahajan accepted a bribe of ₹45 lakhs from a pharmaceutical company to protect them from legal consequences. The ANTF conducted a raid at Mahajan’s residence in Amritsar but failed to apprehend him.

This action highlights the Punjab Police’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption and its efforts to create a drug-free state.
